About us
Kardamom is a small enterprise started by Suzanne Finchett and Deepa Silveira, inspired by a love for India and its diverse traditions in textiles, vibrant colours and intricate, detailed art.
Deepa and Suzanne first met in Turkey in 1993, yes over 30 years ago! We were both travelling around the world and have kept in touch ever since. Our love of travel, culture, architecture, colour and textiles are always a topic of conversation and perhaps it was our destiny finally to put our ideas into this unique collection.
Together, we bring you products that combine traditional Indian aesthetics with modern comfort and utility.
Deepa Silveira was born in Agra, India and is a designer with many years of experience in Textiles. She has a masters degree in Clothing and Textile design and worked at India's National Institute of Design. She later became a designer of childrenswear for various label boutiques and stores in around UK, Europe and Australia. Since then she has lived all over the world before settling in Portugal with her husband Rossini.
Suzanne Finchett was born and raised on a farm in Somerset. It wasn't long after graduating that she travelled the world with her now husband Tom. India and Nepal had a lasting impression on both of them. Since their carefree days of backpacking around the world Suzanne qualified as an upholsterer and whilst raising 3 children worked on a country estate, involving many a house renovation including the local pub!
